TimeSpy-P15 is a simple,
easy to use and easy to install in commercial vehicles, for the
benefits of its drivers, for protection against EU legislation;
rules on driver’s hours.
The TimeSpy-P15 comes
with 3 visible counters – counting
? an ongoing break,
? total break time – {a break period must be at least 15
minutes}
? time remaining before setting off to drive.
The TimeSpy-P15 is connected
to the handbrake. When the driver releases the handbrake the break
counter starts and when the driver activates the handbrake the
counter stops.
Since the TimeSpy-P15
is connected to the handbrake instead of the tachograph. This
gives the driver the option of resuming a break before he starts
moving the vehicle. The unit thereby makes it possible to lengthen
a break till 15 minutes or more. An alarm draws this to the driver’s
attention and will also inform the driver, when he/she has to
begin driving again and also when his next break is.
The key advantages of
TimeSpy-P15 are:
• Counter for (ongoing) Breaks
• Counter for Total Break Time
• Counter for Driving Time Remaining
• Alarm (audible and visible)
• Easily installed/no resealing of tachograph

TimeSpy-P15 is a simple, easy
to use, easy to install, counter unit. It is installed in commercial
vehicles, for the benefit of its drivers, for protection against
EU legislation; i.e. the rules on the number of driving hours.
Advice on the NEW
WORKING TIME REGULATIONS for mobile workers in the UK road
transport sector
The main purpose of TimeSpy-P15
is to assist a driver in taking the correct amount of break periods.
TimeSpy-P15 does not take into
account the EU working time directive for vehicle drivers. The
user must acquaint them self fully with these rules and t is a
requirement that the user of TimeSpy-P15 knows the general legislation
on driver’s “hours” rules. The user must take
full responsibility for observing the relevant legislation at
all times.
USER MANUAL
”R” and ”S” KEYS
• ”R” key:
Once ignition is switched ON,
the display of the TimeSpy-P15 reminds the user with the following
text:
PRESS
"R" FOR |
3
SEC. TO RESET |
At the beginning of a working
day, the user always starts by pressing the ”R” key
for 3 seconds (”resets” all counters). The unit gives
a short sound signal (3 x 3 ”bib”).
This is ignored, if in a driving
period. The sound signal and the text only has the function to
make the user remember resetting all counters at the beginning
of the working day or at the changing over of the driver.
The “R” key is pressed
at the end of a break, meaning the “total” has reached
(0:45) or the “left” has reached (0:00) according
to the user’s wishes and pattern of driving.
• ”S” key:
This key is used to enable or
disable the sounder (buzzer). If the buzzer is disabled the unit
only gives alarm with a blinking/flashing diode .
Buzzer enabled is the default
setting.
Press “S” for 10 seconds
to disable the buzzer. The following text is shown in the display:
If the buzzer is disabled, it
will still give an audible alarm 5 minutes before the driver has
to start a break in the correct time (See “Left counter”).
”BREAK”-, ”TOTAL”- or ”LEFT”
COUNTER’S
”BREAK” counter
• The ”Break”
counter counts the period (minutes), where the handbrake has been
activated.
The counter divides the breaks
into more than 15 minutes breaks and less than 15 minutes
breaks.
The following example is for taking
less than a 15 minutes break. The driver releases the hand brake
12 minutes and 8 seconds after it was activated. The display shows:
The buzzer and the diode will
give an alarm for 5 seconds and the display shows the current
time of the break blinking / flashing.
The driver now can decide, if
he/she wants to lengthen his/her break with 3 extra minutes by
activating the handbrake again (a break MUST be minimum 15 minutes),
or if he/she wants to consider this as a simple stop and ignore
the alarm.
If the driver chooses to lengthen
the break with 3 extra minutes (or more), the unit will 10 seconds
after the end of break add the relevant break time from the “break”
counter to the “total” counter (see description of
“total” counter in the part “TOTAL” counter)
and reset the “break” counter. The handbrake must
be reactivated within 10 seconds, to make the “break”
counter continue from where it was interrupted.
If the driver chooses not to lengthen
his break, the break is less than 15 minutes. This is no longer
considered as a break, but a stop. The unit will add the relevant
break time from the “break” counter to the “remain”
counter (see description of “left” counter in the
part “LEFT” counter). This action will lengthen the
period before the last break must be started (postpones a break).
”TOTAL” counter
• The ”Total”
counter is a counter that sum up breaks that is 15 minutes or
more.
Possible to reset after achieving
45 minutes in a period (See the ”R” key part).
”LEFT” counter
• The ”Left”
counter is a counter, which shows the remaining driving time in
a period (the counter counts down).
There will be an alarm 5 minutes
before the driver must start his/her (last) break. The alarm will
be a 5 seconds acoustic alarm, blinking/flashing diode and blinking/flashing
”left” counter.
The diode and the ”left”
counter will continue blinking/flashing after the 5 seconds and
as long as the alarm conditions are present.
Example 1
The driver drives for a full 4.5
hours driving period. When the “left” counter has
reached 0:50, the display will show the following text (this is
when the driver is 5 minutes from being obliged to start his 45
minutes break).
The diode and the ”left”
counter will blink/flash and the buzzer will start. This alarm
is to draw the drivers attention to the fact that he/she is now
5 minutes from being obliged to start his break.
The diode and the ”left”
counter will continue blinking/flashing after the 5 seconds and
as long as the alarm conditions are present.
Example 2
The driver divides his breaks
into 3 equal (3 times - 15 minutes). When the ”left”
counter has reached 0:20, the display will show the following
text (this is when the driver is 5 minutes from being obliged
to start his last 15 minutes break)
The diode and the ”left”
counter will blink/flash and the buzzer will start. This alarm
is to draw the drivers attention to the fact that he/she is now
5 minutes from being obliged to start his break.
The diode and the ”left”
counter will continue blinking/flashing after the 5 seconds and
as long as the alarm conditions are present.
Example 3
In this example, we will describe
a situation, where the breaks do not “come right”.
A driver has had two breaks –
a 16 minutes break and a 24 minutes break – which gives
a total of 40 minutes break time. The driver is obliged to keep
at least 15 minutes break to full fill the demand of a break being
at least 15 minutes. When the ”left” Counter has reached
0:20, the display will show the following text (this is when the
driver is 5 minutes from being obliged to start his last 15 minutes
break)
The diode and the ”left”
counter will blink/flash and the buzzer will start. This alarm
is to draw the drivers attention to the fact that he/she is now
5 minutes from being obliged to start his/her break.
The diode and the ”left” counter will continue blinking/flashing
after the 5 seconds and as long as the alarm conditions are present.
This example shows a situation,
where the total break time will be more than the obliged 45 minutes.
The unit handles this situation in a way that makes the last break
be at least 15 minutes.
