Maintenance Management

This MSc module aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practise of reliability-centred maintenance and total productive maintenance strategies. Maintenance has to respond to the increasing pressure to achieve high plant availability and the growing awareness of its effect on product quality, safety and environmental issues. This module examines the main methods for developing a modern maintenance programme for industrial plant.

The Learning Outcomes involve:

- applying the TPM and RCM framework to improve plant effectiveness
- describe functions of process elements, indicate functional failures
- describe in structured form the effects of functional failure
- identify critical failure modes
- allocate responsibilities of maintenance tasks between plant operator and maintenance personnel

The teaching syllabus covers the following areas:

TPM

The modern role of care and asset management through TPM. The TPM improvement plan. Planning and launching TPM. Maximising equipment effectiveness. Implementing autonomous maintenance. Equipment improvement and quality maintenance.

RCM

The changing world of maintenance. RCM: the seven basic equations. The plant register. Function and failures. Failure consequences. Perspective loops. Default action. The RCM Decision diagram. The nature of failure and Technical history. Implementing RCM

This MSc in Maintenance Management module is taught over one week and consists of intensive lectures, laboratories, seminars and case studies. A further 2 weeks is left for self study. The assessment consists of a final exam plus coursework, with a 70% and 30% weighting respectively.

The course is held at a Scottish University and is worth 15 credit points. It can be taken on its own merit as CPD (continuous professional development) or towards a PgC or PgD in Maintenance Management or as in most cases a MSc in Maintenance Management.

This MSc in Maintenance Management module course is suitable for students/delegates who possess at least a degree in a engineering discipline. A-1 Technical Training, logis-Tech Associates provide added tuitional support to all attendees in this module, if required, for a small fee,

The next in-take to the MSc in Maintenance Management is September 2005 - numbers are limited. For more details on the MSc in Maintenance Management, please complete the request for information form or email hugo@logis-tech.co.uk.
