MSc Distance Block Format

 

All of the MSc courses are run as a distance block format. They are not wholly distance learning course and require set periods of attendance in the University. There are 8 taught modules in each MSc course and each module involves one complete week in a reputable University. It is possible for the MSc project to be done at a distance.

A typical distance block format of delivery for the MSc courses is shown below. Specific module titles, dates, etc, are posted well in advance and students notified.

Semester A is from 26th of September 2005 to 16th December 2005 (Semester B is a similar format and starts in early February 2006 and lasts for 12 weeks also with Easter holidays excluded).

The months of January 2006 and May 2006 is set aside for exams. Overseas students may arrange to sit the exams in their own country. However, an extra fee is involved.

Semester A

Module 1
Week 1 (Week beginning 26th September 2005) - University attendance (A intensive course; lectures, tutorials, labs, etc)
Week 2 (Week beginning 3th October 2005) - Self Study
Week 3 (Week beginning 10th October 2005) - Self Study

Module 2
Week 4 (Week beginning 17th October 2005) - University attendance (A intensive course; lectures, tutorials, labs, etc)
Week 5 (Week beginning 24th October 2005) - Self Study
Week 6 (Week beginning 31st October 2005) - Self Study

Module 3
Week 7 (Week beginning 7th November 2005) - University attendance (A intensive course; lectures, tutorials, labs, etc)
Week 8 (Week beginning 14th November 2005) - Self Study
Week 9 (Week beginning 21st November 2005) - Self Study

Module 4
Week 10 (Week beginning 28th November 2005) - University attendance (A intensive course; lectures, tutorials, labs, etc)
Week 11 (Week beginning 5th December 2005) - Self Study
Week 12 (Week beginning 12th December 2005) - Self Study

The part-time MSc takes two years and therefore students only have to attend 2 of the modules per semester at the University.

By arrangement, with the course tutor, the MSc course can be made more flexible to suit the students work/home/travel commitments.
