Aim

To give a broad based introduction to a wide variety of manufacturing processes placed in a practical context and to introduce the systems approach to manufacturing.

Learning Outcome At the completion of the module the student should be able to:

· Discuss the development of manufacturing philosophies.
· Select appropriate manufacturing processes and routes including methods of quality assessment for a simple product.
· Derive simple costs for the manufacture of simple components.
· Explain how the systems approach is applied to manufacturing.
