AimTo give an introduction to the internal and external environments of engineering organisations
Learning Outcome: At the completion of the module the student should be able to:
Describe the roles of the main departments found in engineering organisations
Analyse the influences which affect the role of the engineer in an engineering organisation
Describe the financial environment in which the Engineer operates.
Indicative Content Description of the organisational structures of both an engineering manufacturing organisation and an engineering service organisation. The functions of the key departments within an engineering organisation. Interactions between departments.The roles and responsibilities of the employee categories specified by the engineering council. Interpersonal relationships and hierarchies within engineering organisations. Evaluation of social pressures on group members within the workplace. Time planning.
The purpose of a balance sheet, a profit and loss account, a budget. Means of identifying overheads. Cost of sales and services. The need for financial planning.
