The Double HNC
in Engineering |
For the attention of all prospective UK and worldwide students considering studying towards a HNC in an Engineering qualification (SQA accredited – internationally recognised) by Open / distance learning. The following is a method to obtain 2 (double) HNC in Engineering qualifications.
A HNC in Engineering involves obtaining 12 credits (7/8 engineering modules plus the engineering project). Careful selection of modules is the important factor and this is only one of the strengths of A-1 Technical Training, Logis-Tech Associates working within the UK engineering educational system.
How can it be achieved!
A student studies towards one HNC in Engineering qualification and by careful selection of modules can obtain another HNC qualification (however, a further registration fee has to be paid to SQA) without the student taking on any extra modules, as well as, more importantly completing 6 out of the 8 modules of the first year of the B.Eng (Hons) in Engineering (awarding body – UK University). The B.Eng programmes are also by distance learning, but formal examinations are involved.
Two HNC qualifications for the work of one (and indeed approximately for the price of one). It is also very impressive on the CV to future employers that two individual HNC in Engineering qualifications are obtained.
Shown below is how it can be achieved!
A student registers and studies towards the following HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
HNC in Mechanical Engineering
Core Modules:
Fundamentals of Quality Assurance {1 credit} details
Engineering Project {2 credit} details
Communications: Presenting Complex{1 credit} details
Information Technology Applications 2 {1 credit} detailsPrinciples & Technology Modules:
Industrial Plant Maintenance {1 credit} details
Mechanical Plant Systems {1 credit} details
Mathematics for Engineers {1 credit} details
Engineering Principles (Mechanical) {1 credit} details
Applied Heat {1 credit} detailsOptions Modules:
Safety Engineering {1 credit} details
Engineering Principles (Electrical) {1 credit} details
From the above the student has gained 12 credits for a HNC in Mechanical Engineering (5 core modules + 5 Principles & Technology + 2 Options). The order of taking the modules is not as shown above.
Now this is how to work within the system. {The same modules taken in a slightly different way};
HNC in Multidiscipline EngineeringCore Modules:
Fundamentals of Quality Assurance {1 credit} details
Engineering Project {2 credit} details
Communications: Presenting Complex {1 credit} details
Information Technology Applications 2 {1 credit} detailsPrinciples & Technology Modules:
Engineering Principles (Electrical) {1 credit} details
Engineering Principles (Mechanical) {1 credit} details
Applied Heat {1 credit} details
Mechanical Plant Systems {1 credit} details
Mathematics for Engineers {1 credit} detailsOptions Modules:
Safety Engineering {1 credit} details
Industrial Plant Maintenance {1 credit} details
From the above the student has gained 12 credits for a HNC in Multidiscipline Engineering (5 core modules + 5 Principles & Technology + 2 Options). The order of taking the modules is not as shown above. So the student, after completing the HNC in Mechanical Engineering then pays the registration fee for the HNC in Multidiscipline Engineering and seeks APL (accreditation for prior learning) and gains another HNC qualification and does NOT have to complete any other modules. TWO HNC qualifications are gained; one in Mechanical Engineering and the other in Multidiscipline Engineering, which on a CV, is impressive and can look as if a student has done extensive studying in Engineering.
The same criteria is also possible for a student firstly taking a HNC in Multidiscipline Engineering can then seek APL to gain a HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
The other major advantage is that the student has not only gained 2 HNC qualifications, but also completed 6 out of the 8 modules of level 1 of the B.Eng (Hons) in Engineering programmes.
The ultimate goal of all students studying via A-1 Technical Training, Logis-Tech Associates is the B.Eng (Hons) in Engineering. However, on route passing 2 HNC qualifications. It is still all very hard work, but is achievable to all if they put in the time and the effort.

The same can also be obtained for a HNC in Electrical Engineering and a HNC in Electronic Engineering.
