BSc in Building Services Engineering |
Building Services Engineering is a broad-based discipline involving the design, installation and maintenance of all the systems and equipment required to provide us with a safe and comfortable built environment.
The BSc in Building Services Engineering by day release is a programme that runs one day per week for 12 weeks over two semesters A and B per year. This means 24 days attendance at a Scottish University per year plus about 4/5 half days for exams.
With building projects worldwide and a greater awareness of global environmental issues, the role and contribution of the Building Services Engineer is assured. The programme begins by developing the principles of Engineering on a broad basis ie Thermofluids, Structural Mechanics, Electrical Technology and Applied Mathematics. As the programme evolves, the subject material is of a more applied and vocational nature tending towards direct applications to the built environment. The final elements are almost exclusively building services, but do reflect the diversity of the subject area by offering topics from lighting design to heating/air conditioning systems. The programme entitles graduates to associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering.Employment in the building services industry covers a wide spectrum of activities throughout the design to operation stages of a range of building types from domestic, commercial, industrial and leisure. Opportunities can be found in a wide variety of industries ie consultant design engineers, contractors, local authorities, hospital boards etc. Our graduates continually find meaningful employment within their chosen profession and are snapped up by major blue-chip companies.
