KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership)

KTP's allow you to tap into new thinking and new resources at a cost effective level

Logis-Tech Associates now assist companies in Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. A KTP is a project part-funded by a Government grant. The projects can vary in length from 10 to 40 weeks or 1 to 3 years. At the present time, due to the current downturn the government has increased its funding contribution and companies only have to contribute 25% of the costs. A substantial saving/benefit to companies. So there is No time like the present to obtain KTPs

The key facts of KTP are:

    • the projects must be driven by business needs
    • the project goals must be in tackling shorter or longer-term, more strategic tactical issues.
    • the nature of a Partnership involves a company partner, "knowledge base partner and an Associate undertaking a single project on behalf of the company partner.
    • Associates may be based at the company premises (employed by the knowledge base partner), or may be based at the knowledge base institution if already employed by the company partner.
    • the Project duration is 10 to 40 weeks or 1 to 3 years.
    • find an innovative solution to help your business grow
    • increase your competitive advantage
    • access recently qualified people to spearhead new projects
    • access experts who can help take your business forward

    What is KTP?

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is a UK-wide programme enabling organisations to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance. KTP achieves this by helping organisations to access knowledge, technology or skills from the UK’s knowledge base, which includes universities, further education (FE) colleges and research and technology organisations (RTOs).

The knowledge sought is embedded into the organisation from the knowledge base through a project, or projects, undertaken by a recently qualified person recruited to specifically work on that project (known as the Associate).
KTPs can vary in length from 10-40 weeks (shorter KTP) and from one to three years (classic KTP), depending on the needs of the organisation and the desired outcomes.

What can a shorter KTP offer me?

Shorter KTPs aim to address more short-term, tactical business issues. They also act as a stepping-stone for those organisations that have not worked with a university or college before to realise the benefits that can be achieved through knowledge transfer and collaborative partnerships.

Projects may be stand-alone or can lead to, run in parallel with, or follow-on from a classic KTP. Partnerships may have more than one shorter KTP running in parallel or sequentially.

    And the benefits...

KTPs are part-funded by the Government. Therefore, they are cost effective methods of gaining access to well-qualified people and experts within the UK’s universities and further education colleges who can also help to take
    your organisation forward.

    Does my organisation qualify?

Shorter KTPs are appropriate for independent micro-sized organisations and small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs), which have the potential for growth and have a project requiring expertise not available within the organisation. The shorter KTPs are a great way for micro-sized organisations and SMEs that have not previously
engaged with a university or college to do so. Depending on the individual criteria of the funding organisation, some large enterprises, public sector and third sector organisations may also be eligible.

What will it cost my organisation?

The budget for any individual KTP, and an organisation’s contribution to it, depends on the duration of the specific Partnership. The typical ten-week shorter KTP will cost around £9,500. Contribution by an SME will be 40% of a project’s cost and contribution by a large organisation will be around 60% of the project cost.

    About the funding organisations

The Technology Strategy Board was established by the Government in 2007 and is sponsored and funded by the Department for
